T’PURAM: A Drug Information Centre - first-of-its-kind in the State - is being inaugurated at the Medical College Hospital on Wednesday by Health Minister P K Sreemathi.
The Centre has been set up by the State Drugs Control Department with the support of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and aided by the World Bank under the Capacity Building Project Scheme.
The centre would provide information on the usage of drugs, their side-effects and benefits to patients. A special software has been imported for the purpose.
This software has comprehensive details of the drugs and is intended to help disseminate information to the public. It would also provide counselling to the patients. Even the students of pharmacy would be benefited by this centre.
It has been set up at the Information Centre of the hospital at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh. The centre will have the services of a clinical pharmacist and a record keeper round the clock. Information can also be had over phone at 0471-2445252, 24 hours.
This centre will supply information about drugs to doctors as well as the general public. It has also been decided to utilise the services of M Pharm clinical pharmacy students of the Medical College.
