KOCHI: The Ernakulam district administration will set up an Employment Enabling Agency (EEA) which will send educated youth from economically backward families abroad for employment.
District Collector M Beena, the brain behind the project, will be its president. According to Beena, with the help of recruiting agencies, youth who have qualifications from polytechnic, IT and ITA field would be able to secure jobs with the help of district administration. Beena has the credit of implementing the system successfully in Thrissur district where she was the Collector.
She said scores of youth from Thrissur got employment with the help of the agency. The new system would protect the rural jobseekers from the clutches of fake recruiting agencies.
“Ernakulam is a place of recruiting agencies. Several people from the district are going abroad daily. But rural youth are not able to go abroad due to financial constraints. So the district administration will arrange jobs for qualified youth with the help of recruiting agencies.
Free visas would be arranged for them,’’ Assistant Development Commissioner Soman said. “Priority will be given to SC and ST candidates,’’ he said. “Recruiting agencies will be the members of the proposed organisation. District administration will publish the vacancies in newspapers on the basis of vacancies reported by recruiting agencies. Qualified youth will be selected after interviews conducted by the EEA’’ the Collector said.
