THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: THE Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai is joining hands with the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and the Christian Medical College, Vellore to launch two unique post-graduate programmes.

One is an M.Tech degree course in clinical engineering and the other is a doctoral programme in biomedical devices and technology.

``Currently there are no training programmes to produce engineers who will be able to look after the ever-increasing complex and sophisticated equipment used in research and healthcare.

Even the company representatives are not qualified enough to repair or correct the errors in these equipment. We intend to plug this gap,’’ said SCTIMS director G.Mohandas.

While the M.Tech course will help to create a cadre of competent clinical engineers to maintain the hospital equipment, the PhD degree in medical devices and technology is to initiate young post-graduate engineers in developing healthcare technology
